The conception of triple goddess existed in the ancient celtic faith, Lugus the immanent is a triple god he is at the same time himself, and the threefold taranis esus and toutatis these are different aspects of this high god, also Morrigan irish supreme goddess, goddess of war who is at the same time the trio of sisters Badb, Macha and Anu or Fea or Nemain depending on source. and mainly Brigantia she’s daughter of the supreme dagodewos the father god, in the mythology she has two sisters, also named Brigantia, who actually are three different aspects of herself, she represents the triple goddess one aspect with warrior and blacksmithing skills, other with bardic skills and the other with druidic knowledge. the maid, the mother and the chrone. this conception is conected with the moon phases, the lunar calendar was originally used by the european pagan societies before the adoption of the roman solar calendar, it regulated the harvest and fertility of women. actually the conception of trinity is of european origin not jew it have to do with the three forces that created the universe, the two opposite forces and its resultant, the trinity was later added to christianism by rome to make the conversion of the heathens easier, as every christian holiday have pagan elements. read this post http://vikingfury.tumblr.com/post/14521339082/trinerta-the-three-forces
About wicca, it’s a syncretized form of paganism, the ancient celts weren’t wiccans but wicca is mainly based on celtic magic, it’s based on celtic faith such as many other, but much concepts are of celtic origin like the wheel of the year and the god and goddess, as wicca emerged in Britain, the place where the druids emerged, where the most important druidic learning center was located, inis mona. the witch covens that gerald gardner studied and joined, that gave birth to wicca are of celtic tradition in essence, wicca is more based on medieval traditions, time when witchcraft was yet syncretized with germanic, and roman and jew traditions due the presence of christianism, but the most concepts in witchcraft remained celtic.
Well kernunnos is a horned god, but indeed in wicca the horned god is worshiped in a different way, as the masculine energy of the primordial spirit, thus it’s just a allegory. at the same time that the celts believed in many gods, they believed that all gods are just different aspects of the same primal spirit, this spirit was also worshiped by its two energies feminine and masculine, the goddes and the god, as we can notice in the major celtic festivals such as beltane.
The pentagram were used by various cultures along time including celtic, it’s was used by druids and was called druid’s feet, the number 5 is very powerful.
And the green man is none other than Dagda (or Eochaid or Ollathair in irish), the celtic green man of course, who appear in britain and ireland, (have you ever heard of the arthurian tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight?) the green man is actually the personification of a spring and nature god, he appears in many cultures as well, but in celtic lands it’s him, Dagda, though some people view him as kernunnos.
Most of the ideas from the OP are from Robert Graves’ The White Goddess. Later, he basically says “That book was crazy,...
